SARANAC LAKE—Sunday afternoon, the funeral of Carl Allen Blumenthal, 18, the village's first war casualty to be brought back for burial, was held in the Presbyterian church. He died last week at a Philadelphia naval hospital the result of a virus infection after only 24 hours illness. The young man was graduated last June from the high school and shortly afterward he enlisted and went to Sampson for boot training and was only recently transferred to Philadelphia. At school he was an outstanding athlete. His parents survive.
